The Conversations Network aims to help individuals and organizations capture and publish their own spoken-word audio, mainly in the form of events that are experienced only by attendees but that could be experienced by anyone, anywhere. One of the key challenges is enabling non-experts to make good audio recordings. VisiCalc co-creator Dan Brickin, a self-described "PC industry old-timer, podcaster, and amateur photographer," has been climbing that learning curve for a while. In this interview he discusses tools and techniques for recording, and strategies for getting other people up to speed with them.

Dan Bricklin is currently president of Software Garden, Inc., a small consulting firm and developer of software applications that he founded in 1985. His main current project is the Open Source SocialCalc spreadsheet engine that he is working on for Socialtext. He has been blogging since early 1999 and podcasting since late 2004.

Bricklin is best known for codeveloping VisiCalc, the first electronic spreadsheet, while he was a student at the Harvard Business School. VisiCalc is widely credited for fueling the rapid growth of the personal computer industry.
